OTHER EVENTS OF INTEREST Interest in Egypt is a widespread and active phenomenon. Many events happen in and around Pennsylvania that are not affiliated with ARCE-PA but may be of interest to members. We will do our best to keep track of what's going on out there and list them here. Some will come to our attention at the very last minute, so keep an eye on this page! We'll also do our best to gather as much information as possible, but sometimes only limited details will be available. THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART "Tutankhamun's Funeral" March 16, 2010 - September 6, 2010 This exhibition explores the materials and rituals associated with the burial of the pharaoh. The presentation includes some sixty objects, primarily from the Metropolitan's own collections. DISCOVERY TIMES SQUARE EXPOSITION "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" April 23, 2010 - January 2, 2011 An expanded version of Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs will appear in the 60,000-square-foot basement of the New York Times' former mid-Manhattan location in Spring 2010. The touring presentation of more than 130 Egyptian antiquities in the West 43 Street Discovery Times Square Exposition space will follow Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition and Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia. Ticket prices will be $19.50 for adults and $17.50 for children. THE FRANKLIN INSTITUTE "Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt" June 5, 2010 - January 2, 2011 222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 First stop in a traveling exhibition about the enigmatic Egyptian queen; four other US cities will follow. The exhibition will feature more than 250 artifacts, and takes visitors inside the present-day search for Cleopatra's tomb in Taposiris Magana and will display finds from Aboukir Bay. CAMDEN COUNTY COLLEGE "Cleopatra's World: Lecture Series" September 15, 2010 - November 10, 2010 Journey with us into Cleopatra's World with six leading Egyptologists and a distinguished scholar of Roman history. Discover this fascinating story of love, betrayal, political intrigue, war and death, featuring Egypt's most famous queen, Cleopatra VII. |
